Performances at East LA College

Professor Michael Colling and I have arranged four film screening - two each of From Wharf Rats to Lords of the Docks and To Begin the World Over Again; the Life of Thomas Paine - followed by live Q&As for Fall semester students at East LA College Annex.

The Annex is a severely underfunded and very different environment to the main campus. It doesn’t have any kind of useable performance space, which is why we are screening the two films. Many of these students themselves face enormous financial challenges; some are homeless, many are hungry most of the time, yet they keep coming to school. Most of them are first or second generation immigrants, and they understand these two stories, of men who immigrated to American and built new lives, deeply and personally.

I am proud to present my plays to them. Sponsored by the ILWU Credit Union (Wharf Rats…) and the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture (To Begin the World…). Thank you!
